Tackle World Country Fishing Report
Well it’s that time of the week again, time for another fish report. We’ve had some really good days lately with the wind dropping out giving us fishos a chance to get out on the water.I took fellow worker John Browning from Tackleworld Country out for a fish last weekend. He has been dying to give the Soft Plastic lures a go so we finally managed to score a day off work together and with the weather looking good we headed out of Dongara to fish with Gulp and Squidgy soft plastics. I took John out to a couple of shallow lumps where I have been catching good size Dhu Fish and Baldys. The day started off slow with only a couple of undersize Dhu Fish and a nice 55cm (3kg) Baldy coming aboard. Then out of nowhere John is on, and it’s a solid hook up.Strong head shakes with a lot of weight had us calling it for a good Dhu.The fish was stubborn and didn’t want to leave the safety of the bottom and put up a great fight - pulling drag off Johns Shimano Saragosa 5000 over and over again but John did a great job applying the brakes and coaxing the fish to the surface. It was a healthy 10-11kg Dhu with a Pink Gulp hanging out of it’s mouth. The fish was bled and put straight on ice which made John a very happy man - I think I actually saw him licking his lips as it went into the esky!John went on to catch another 6kg Dhu fish that we successfully released so for the day we ended up catching a Baldy and 7 Dhu Fish keeping the two biggest releasing the rest.
Beach/Rocks/Harbour
Back of the Lives area is the best spot to catch most of your bread and butter species like Herring, Skippy, Sand Whiting and smallish Tailor.Burlying up seems to be the key to bringing the fish in so try throwing a handful of burly in every 5-10 mins to keep them interested. I also seen photos of a brave angler catching a 10 ft Tiger Shark from the Lives wall using a fresh Tailor fillet as bait.If you’re after a few Tailor, the Drummonds Cove area is the place to try. Bbaitcasting Mulies on a gang hook seems to be what’s doing the damage and fishing an hour before and after dark is the best time for Tailor.
Offshore and Islands
We’ve had good reports of Dhu Fish and Baldys coming from around African Reef and Pensioners Bank and lots of Pink Snapper being caught out in the 35-45m mark. The Islands are still firing for the usual so we’ve had reports of lots of good sized Dhu Fish, Baldy’s, Pink Snapper, Red Throat Emperor and Spangled Emperor coming from the southern group of the Islands. We also had some Tackleworld Country regulars tell me they were fishing the Islands at night and were having a ball catching mixed species of fish on the glow in the dark Berkly Gulp soft plastics. They said they were fishing in 10-15 m of water and just letting their glow in the dark Gulp sink to the bottom and wait for it to disappear ... meaning that it had been swallowed by a fish!A great way to fish Gulps and some exciting fishing. If you're chasing Pelagic species, there’s lots of mixed Tuna and Mackerel being trolled up around Wreck Point and Long Island.
South of Town/Dongara
Lots of Dhu Fish being caught in close to the main reef systems around Dongara. The Pink Snapper are being caught in 25 – 35m and mark finding drop-offs or structure in these depths is the key to finding the Snapper. Also the Dongara rock walls are producing Skippy, Herring, Whiting with the odd Tailor coming through after dark. Show us your fish...
Send us in your Photos!
Remember that the fish report is for your benefit and if you don’t tell us where you catch fish, we have nothing to talk about…!
This week's pic is from Tackleword newsletter reader who answers to the name of "wiseone" with an Easter mulloway caught at 7mile. He tells us that he put her back for another day
Fishing Funnies
No one in this town could catch any fish except this one man. The game warden asked him how he did it so the man told the game warden that he would take him fishing the next day...Once they got to the middle of the lake the man took out a stick of dynamite, lit it, and threw it in the water. After the explosion fish started floating to the top of the water. The man took out a net and started picking up the fish. The game warden told him that this was illegal. The man took out another stick of dynamite and lit it. He then handed it to the game warden and said " are you going to fish or talk?"We're one of a kind!

ANGLER’S ALMANAC – 2010 available in store…
This weekend is the last quarter of the moon period, Friday and Saturday are white days, Sunday is a light grey day and Monday is dark grey day. Best times for fishing this weekend are between 4am – 6.30am and 4.30pm - 7.30pm.Fishing inside of these times will improve your catch chances. The minor fishing times are 6 hours either side of the above major times and you would fish about a half hour either side. Also, fishing 2hrs either side of the high tide or fishing the incoming tide will increase your chances of catching fish.Tight lines and have a great weekend of fishing!
