Real experiences from anglers like you.

Meet the Team

  • Greg

Greg is the proud owner of Tackle World Gladstone and has been running the store for the past 14 years, but the O’Reilly family has had it in the blood for over 50. With 54 years of experience behind him, Greg lives and breathes fishing and has helped shape the store into what it is today.

He loves the energy that comes with sales, sharing stories and chatting with both staff and customers. Whether you’re swapping tales at the counter or grabbing gear for your next trip, Greg’s always up for a yarn.

His fishing specialties include everything from barra and flathead to whiting, trout and redthroat. The Gladstone region offers the full spread of estuary and offshore species, and Greg reckons we’re pretty lucky to have that right on our doorstep.

Through Tackle World, Greg has made lifelong friendships and had the chance to travel the world on some incredible fishing adventures. From overseas fishing trips to behind-the-scenes tours of rod and reel manufacturing at Shimano in Malaysia and Japan, it’s all been part of the ride.

If you’re chasing a bit of fishing history and a whole lot of knowledge, Greg’s always happy to share a few stories and help you get sorted for your next session.

  • Dylan

Dylan is the Store Manager at Tackle World Gladstone and has been part of the crew for over 15 years. Born into the lifestyle, he’s been in boats since before he could walk and has built a life around fishing, spearfishing and everything the outdoors has to offer.

What he loves most is helping others chase down their dream fish, whether it’s someone brand new to fishing or a seasoned pro looking for that next PB. For Dylan, it’s all about being on the water, whether it’s offshore at the Capricorn Bunker Group or exploring the endless estuaries and coastline around Gladstone.

Gladstone’s fishery is something special, sitting at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef and backed by one of Australia’s best impoundment barra fisheries, Lake Awoonga. Combine that with local rivers and estuaries that bring both northern and southern species, and you’ve got no shortage of opportunity.

Dylan’s passion runs deep, and seafood is a staple in his diet, just like it is for many who live along Australia’s coastline. One of his favourite trips was a 7-day spearfishing mission to Swains Reef with the crew from Australian Underwater Products, where he ticked off a few bucket list species and put some of the industry’s best gear to the test.

If you want to talk offshore setups, local barra, or spearfishing adventures, Dylan’s always keen for a yarn.

  • Michael

Michael has been part of the Tackle World Gladstone team for the past eight years and brings loads of hands-on fishing experience to the shop. He’s one of those all-rounders who can jump into anything, whether it’s helping a first-timer land their first fish, setting up someone for their PB on topwater or restocking the bait freezer like a pro.

He’s been fishing, hunting, camping and 4WDing for over 16 years, and his go-to targets are mangrove jack, fingermark and prawns. If you’re keen to fill the esky with prawns or crack the code on jacks and fingermark, Michael’s the bloke to talk to.

He started his journey in commercial beach fishing straight out of school, thinking he’d found the dream job. But somewhere along the way, he realised it’s even better helping others land the fish of their dreams. Now he shares that knowledge with anyone who walks through the door.

One of his top fishing experiences was chasing black jewfish on lures off the central east coast of Queensland. Another standout was landing a mangrove jack over 60cm on topwater. The next goal? Doing the same on the west coast. If that’s on your list too, drop in and have a yarn with Michael.

  • Craig

Craig’s been part of the Tackle World Gladstone crew for over 11 years and is a familiar face to both long-time locals and new customers walking through the door. He’s an in-store expert who also handles invoicing and sales, but his real passion lies in fishing and helping others get out on the water.

He’s been fishing his whole life and knows the Gladstone region like the back of his hand. It’s a diverse fishery, and Craig loves targeting barra, mangrove jack, barred javelin, flathead, threadfin and blue salmon, along with plenty of reef species on lures

He’s also a life member of the Gladstone Sportfishing Club and actively involved in fish tagging through Suntag. On his days off, you’ll find him camping, throwing topwater lures, painting his own custom colours or getting off-road with the 4WD.

One of his most memorable catches was an 83cm Murray cod landed on super light tackle at Cania Dam. But for Craig, every trip is special, and it’s all about making sure there are still fish around for his grandkids to catch one day. If you want to talk barra or barred javelin, Craig’s the one to ask in-store.
