He’s into just about everything outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping and topwater sessions, but reckons you still can’t beat chasing flathead on lures. Brisbane has a seriously diverse fishery, from freshwater dams and estuaries to bay and offshore fishing, and Ryan loves helping people make the most of it.

One of his favourite things about the job is seeing customers return with photos of their catches, especially when they’ve landed them on gear and advice from the shop. Lately though, his proudest moments have been getting his own kids out on the water. As he puts it, less Xbox, more tackle box.

  • Gerard - Tackle World Lawnton

Gerard is the Store Manager at Tackle World Lawnton and has been fishing for over 20 years. He’s all about helping customers chase that fish of a lifetime and reckons there’s nothing better than turning your passion into your job.

He’s mad for summer jack sessions, winter flatty and jew runs, and has spent plenty of time working out the best gear to match it all. His go-to spots range from local estuaries to offshore missions, and his bucket list fish is a black bass.

One of his recent highlights was ticking off a trip to the Montebello Islands. Epic fishing, good company and plenty of stories to bring home. Got questions about estuary gear or just want to chat fish? Swing by and catch up with Gerard in-store.

  • Mitch - Tackle World Lawnton

Mitch has been part of the Tackle World Lawnton crew for six years and is always up for a chat about all things fishing. He’s the kind of bloke who’s happiest with a rod in hand, a few mates nearby and a session chasing barra or jacks on the go.

He grew up fishing the Pine River and knows it back to front, from bass in the upper stretches to snapper and flathead down at the mouth. These days he mixes it up between impoundment barra and inshore missions out in Moreton Bay.

Summer’s his favourite season. Think road trips, jacks, barra and a few beers at the end of the day. He’s also got a soft spot for big bucket list targets like Northern Pike and PNG black bass. If you’re keen to talk jacks, soft vibes or what’s biting in the bay, Mitch is always happy to help.

  • Dylan - Tackle World Gladstone

Dylan is the Store Manager at Tackle World Gladstone and has been part of the crew for over 15 years. Born into the lifestyle, he’s been in boats since before he could walk and has built a life around fishing, spearfishing and everything the outdoors has to offer.

What he loves most is helping others chase down their dream fish, whether it’s someone brand new to fishing or a seasoned pro looking for that next PB. For Dylan, it’s all about being on the water, whether it’s offshore at the Capricorn Bunker Group or exploring the endless estuaries and coastline around Gladstone.

Gladstone’s fishery is something special, sitting at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef and backed by one of Australia’s best impoundment barra fisheries, Lake Awoonga. Combine that with local rivers and estuaries that bring both northern and southern species, and you’ve got no shortage of opportunity.

Dylan’s passion runs deep, and seafood is a staple in his diet, just like it is for many who live along Australia’s coastline. One of his favourite trips was a 7-day spearfishing mission to Swains Reef with the crew from Australian Underwater Products, where he ticked off a few bucket list species and put some of the industry’s best gear to the test.

If you want to talk offshore setups, local barra, or spearfishing adventures, Dylan’s always keen for a yarn.

He started his journey in commercial beach fishing straight out of school, thinking he’d found the dream job. But somewhere along the way, he realised it’s even better helping others land the fish of their dreams. Now he shares that knowledge with anyone who walks through the door.

One of his top fishing experiences was chasing black jewfish on lures off the central east coast of Queensland. Another standout was landing a mangrove jack over 60cm on topwater. The next goal? Doing the same on the west coast. If that’s on your list too, drop in and have a yarn with Michael.

He’s been fishing his whole life and knows the Gladstone region like the back of his hand. It’s a diverse fishery, and Craig loves targeting barra, mangrove jack, barred javelin, flathead, threadfin and blue salmon, along with plenty of reef species on lures

He’s also a life member of the Gladstone Sportfishing Club and actively involved in fish tagging through Suntag. On his days off, you’ll find him camping, throwing topwater lures, painting his own custom colours or getting off-road with the 4WD.

One of his most memorable catches was an 83cm Murray cod landed on super light tackle at Cania Dam. But for Craig, every trip is special, and it’s all about making sure there are still fish around for his grandkids to catch one day. If you want to talk barra or barred javelin, Craig’s the one to ask in-store.

Jake is an in-store expert at Tackle World Port Lincoln, with four years at the store and three prior at Tackle World Salisbury. He’s all about helping people catch fish and is the go-to for anyone chasing advice, gear or a good yarn.

Jake loves every style of fishing around Port Lincoln, from flats whiting to widewater tuna, but his favourite by far is slow pitch jigging. If that’s your thing, he’s the one to talk to.

Port Lincoln is a fishing mecca in SA, offering everything from squid, KG whiting and gummies to the hard-pulling kingfish, samsons and tuna. Jake’s top catch? A 133kg Southern Bluefin Tuna landed earlier this year, one of only a few ever caught in the region.

Swing by the store for a chat. With Jake’s passion for fishing, you might end up staying longer than you planned.

  • Dan - Tackle World Port Lincoln

Dan first started fishing with his Dad as a 5 year old catching salmon at Davenport Creek and whiting in an old tinny; single cylinder seagull outboard that didn’t run properly, around Ceduna. Later moving to Port Lincoln and continued his keenness to fish often pinching a potato from his Mum and going squidding with a pin jag around the Trubridge berth or pinching a couple of pillies off the Tuna Boats to catch tommies and salmon trout; all with a handline.

In his teens he developed a passion for spearfishing, mostly targeting Strongys around Murry’s Point. These days you will find him chasing King George whiting at the Sir Joseph Banks Group or bottom bouncing the reefs south of the passage for Nannygai, Samson and other big reef species.

  • Matthew - Tackle World Forster

Matthew Hagarty is Forster's resident fishing legend and in-store expert! With over 30 years spent casting lines in the Forster fishery, Matthew knows these waters like the back of his hand. From battling monster Snapper and Kingfish offshore to outsmarting trophy Bream in the tranquil Wallis Lake, there's no target he can't tackle. His personal favourites? Luring big Flathead in the shallows with surface lures is pure adrenaline, and he loves the challenge of deciphering the finicky ways of Bream. But when it comes to sheer fun, Matthew can't resist the fight of a hard-hitting Snapper offshore! To Matt, the true beauty of Forster's fishery, is the variety. Every season brings a new cast of characters, from the late summer/early autumn feeding frenzy in the estuary to the influx of exotic species like Longtail Tuna and Cobia offshore. And let's not forget the epic Snapper fishing and the rush of chasing late-season Marlin!
