Barra Classic 2025: Tackle World Team Takes Out Champion Title

The 2025 Barra Classic fishing competition on the Daly River was one to remember, especially for Tackle World Coolalinga's Shane Compain. Competing in his 16th Classic, Shane once again showed why he’s considered one of the Northern Territory’s top barra anglers. But this year, he did more than fish, he led a team that took out Champion Team, secured Runner-Up Local Angler himself, and proved the power of experience, teamwork, and product innovation.

Joining Shane were fellow Tackle World anglers Bryce Neil and Cameron Briscoe, who together put on a masterclass in adapting to changing conditions. Over three big days, the trio shifted tactics as the river evolved, combining old school techniques with the latest in sonar tech to stay ahead of the bite. That adaptability is what sets Tackle World stores apart, the deep local knowledge built from years on the water, and the kind of thinking that only independent fishing experts bring.

One of the standout moments of the tournament came when Shane landed the team’s biggest barra using a lure he designed himself. The Panic Stations Mullet, a creation born from Shane’s experience and deep understanding of barra behaviour, proved its value in the most high-pressure environment imaginable. Fished alongside other tournament-proven lures like the Berkley Shimma Pro and Fuze Seaducer Mullet, Panic Stations helped the team secure their place at the top.

Tackle World stores are built on expertise like this. Shane doesn’t just sell lures, he builds them, tests them, and backs them in the water under tournament conditions. It’s that kind of knowledge that makes the difference for fishos who shop local. The team’s success was also supported by high-performance gear from trusted brands like Abu Garcia, whose baitcaster reels handled the demands of the mighty barra with ease.

“Events like the Barra Classic are more than just fishing comps. They’re a reflection of what it means to Live the Tackle World LIFE — Local Independent Fishing Experts who don’t just know fishing, they live it. Whether it’s building the lures, testing the gear, or sharing honest advice in-store, the LIFE is about giving everyday anglers access to the same experience and insight that helps win comps like this.”
