• this model has a brake control dial on the side panel for quick cast-control fixes, the new model does not
• this model has 4 adjustable brake weights on the inside of the side panel, the new model has 8 adjustable brake weights
• when casting or in free spool, the line guide on this older model doesn't move, whereas the new model's line guide does
